Andrew Makes Comics

College nights

Here is another old comic, from four years ago.  It was made for a fantastic, short-lived anthology.  I’m working on new comics, I swear.

Vanish

Yet another old comic, from a pretty strange time in my life.

Stumbling

Hey all, here is an old comic from some years ago. I have a few more I’ll post soon, and hopefully a new one, too!

Stranded

This is an old comic I drew when I was super depressed some months back.  It’s okay though, because my girlfriend came back, and I even got to see her in France for a bit.

I’ll have a new comic up kinda soon!

Anonymous asked: Dear Andrew,

What is your opinion on the inclusion of Excadrill in the new Pokemon Black/White? Do you feel that it imbalances the game?

Love your comics,
Anon

Dearest Anon,

As someone who has played Pokémon regularly since the 6th grade, I am immensely ashamed to admit that I have not yet bought either of the new games.  I am still playing Heartgold, reveling in nostalgia.  However, rest assured that once I secure one, I will not only have an appropriately passionate position on this debate, but that my Pokémon Diaries will reflect the new quest for Pokémon Mastery.

yasminliang asked: Are we still saying nice things? I bought your "Fleeting" book a while back and still very much enjoy it - as well as the postcard that came with it. It's a permanent piece on my wall!

Aw, thank you very much!  I am both proud and a little embarrassed by Fleeting.  I hope to re-print it again someday soon, though I’d really like to make a new minicomic.

dylansarm asked: Been a fan since I saw Robin in the Rye several years ago. I wanted to ask you, what do you use to illustrate and color your comics?

Thanks, man!

I use a couple mechanical pencils to sketch things out, and then I always use Faber-Castell pens for inking.  I like the Small, but only when it wears out a bit.  I use the Fine for big lines, and the brush to fill stuff in.

When I am coloring by hand, I use Prisma Colors, and sometimes Faber-Castell brush pens.  Lately I’ve been coloring in photoshop using a 10 year-old Wacom tablet.  I normally draw on bristol board if I have it around, or just in a moleskin sketchbook.  I used to draw comics solely on notebook paper, for whatever reason.

zwnsyyan asked: I just randomly found you and really like your stuff. Thanks for making stuff that makes me :D

No thanks necessary!  Thank YOU for reading these silly things.

Also, I’m still new and confused by tumblr, so I hope I’m doing this Q&A correctly!

Anonymous asked: I like your stuff. :D

Thank you!  That makes me feel better about spending my nights drawing tiny cartoons of myself hanging out with Pokémon :)

Anonymous asked: do you have the ability to make poster/wall sized prints of your comics?

I’ve been looking into that; I’d love to make prints very soon (though I draw very small, so I don’t know how large they’d be).

I’d like to make a nice Robin in the Rye print, but I’m not crazy about the idea of being sued by DC Comics and the Salinger estate simultaneously…

Adventures in Johto

I tried maintaining a Pokémon diary once. I like the idea of keeping a comic diary, but my life is boring.  So, why not record what I accomplished in Pokémon that day?
