"Home, alone"

Gouache and colored pencil on purple paper.

Hello dear readers,

NY was wonderful. I traded all of my minicomics, but I’m currently printing and sewing the next batch. I will be making them available here very soon, along with some neat options for sketches and such.

I’ve been very busy drawing these last few weeks, but expect a lot of new work from me very soon! This new little comic is a loose continuation of this comic.

Time Wars: Episode One.

Hello dear readers,
I have finished my minicomic, copies of which I will be bringing to Comic Arts Brooklyn this weekend. 16 pages, color, and hand-stitched binding (by my girlfriend).
I will be printing more next week to be available for purchase here!

I’m drawing these small diary comics to loosen up for my minicomic and such. I was thinking of one of my favorite American Elf strips while drawing this one (wish I could remember the date).

"Two weeks"
colored pencils on green paper
I’ve been drawing a lot in preparation for Comic Arts Brookyln. I’m hoping to have a minicomic ready, so perhaps I will see you there!
Edit- purry, The line is written as I intended, but I suppose that could work, too!

My bff Matt took this in July. I’ve drawn/embroidered this beach before.
Lauren and I are in our new apartment/city, and we love it. I have my art table set up, so I’ll be drawing every dang day. Expect many comics.

"Time Wars" Continued.
Colored pencils, markers, ink, on paper
Hello friends,
Okay, so I have been drawing a lot of this sci-fi comic, originally titled “Elroy Andrews…” something, now probably “Time Wars.” I started it for Frank Santoro’s competition, but I’ve since fleshed it out quite a bit.
I wanted to post one more page here, and then I am hope to post many more pages at once somewhere else. Stay tuned. There will be space ships, lasers, domestic partnerships, vague depression, etc!
It should also make sense, eventually, too.

"Devil Dinosaur by Jack Kirby, Issue 3, Page 16"

Colored pencil on yellow copy paper.

I’ve read comics all my life, and I’ve long admired Jack Kirby’s work. I read that story “This Man, This Monster” repeatedly as a little kid, because it was reprinted in some History of  Marvel Comics book.

Lately, my favorite work by Kirby is his 1970s stuff. I love his 2001: A Space Odyssey comic, which is a large inspiration for the science fiction story I’m drawing. But, my favorite Kirby comics are Devil Dinosaur, and his friend Moonboy. I recommend getting a Jack Kirby collection from your local public or academic library.

I tried to draw this fast, without inks or much penciling. These compositions are insane…

I plan to do this with more of these “studies” of my favorite cartoonists’ pages. I think Frank Santoro teaches this method, and I understand why.

"Ambulance"
Colored pencils, ink, markers, on copy paper.

Just a tiny comic tonight; I’m making a lot of progress on that science fiction comic! I’m hoping to have 10-14 p done at the end of this weekend, and I’m stoked to draw them!

"Diary Comic, September 9th, 2013"
Colored pencils, ink, on blinding neon paper.
Hello dear readers,
Grad school reading is piling up, but I am planning out a lot of new comics. I’ll do my best to maintain this pace.
Edit - I still can’t figure out how to comment on my own posts, so thanks to anyone who ever comments.
@somethingconceptual: I’m in a library science graduate program. It’s great, and I’m trying to balance it with comics as best as I can…

"Elroy Andrews, of the United Planets Orbit 3, 1972"

Ink, Charcoal, Colored pencils, packing labels, marker on toned paper.

I drew this for Frank Santoro’s Comics Workbook Composition Competition

http://comicsworkbook.tumblr.com/post/54896164004/the-santoro-correspondence-course-for-comic-book

Though I failed by a wide margin to complete the 16 pages, I do plan on finishing the story over the next month, and maybe collect it in horrid yellow minicomics. The competition called for 8 panels per page at certain dimensions; all my paper is small, which is why there are 6 per page, and eventually i would have split it in photoshop. dang, it was fun though.

I realize this really doesn’t make sense yet, but hopefully it will once it’s finished. It’s just… everything at once…
